There are so many different interfaces among PCs and consumer electronics that only desktop motherboards can actually integrate them all, and often not even them. So adapters like the one that FirmTek has just launched come out often.

The adapter we're looking at is called ThunderTek/PX-Q6G and converts Thunderbolt signals into eSATA and vice versa.

A single Thunderbolt connection is split into four distinct eSATA ports, each with a speed of 6 Gbps.

The adapter supports compatible single half-length x1, x2 or x4 PCIe 2.0 cards, as well as PCIe cards for eSATA, USB 3.0, 8 Gb Fiber Channel, 10G Ethernet and audio cards.

By default, the ThunderTek/PX-Q6G combines a ThunderTek/PX chassis and the SeriTek/Q6G, FirmTek’s premiere PCIe adapter with four port-multiplier enabled eSATA ports. It can be paired with other eSATA enclosures too.

All in all, it will allow you to expand the storage of your PC or Mac by a great deal.

The FirmTek ThunderTek/PX (without PCIe card) and ThunderTek/PX-Q6G (4-port eSATA bundle) should be available, but their prices aren't known yet.
