Mozilla has officially confirmed the fact that they are currently working on a version of the Firefox browser for mobile phones. It comes as relevant information, as people already started to wonder when Mozilla will provide serious competition for the Internet browsing software that being used at the moment.

Michael Baker, CEO of Mozilla has revealed in a recent interview for the APC Magazine that the company plans on adapting their Firefox Web browser to the requirements of mobile phone use. They are currently working on ways of going past the constraints of a mobile phone's tiny screen as to provide best functionality without sacrificing very much from what the user needs.

It is great news, as the competition in providing mobile Internet services will be highly encouraged. The Firefox Web browser for PCs has registered a continuous growth in use ever since it was first released. It currently holds the second place when it comes to the users' preferences for Internet browsing software.

Mozilla has already released the Minimo project, which was all about a Web browser especially designed for mobile phones. Still, this is not an official product coming from Mozilla. Even more, its speed and performances fail to live up to the demands of a browser coming from this company.

When it comes to comparing Firefox to its competitors, Michael Baker makes it clear why Mozilla's browser is considered to be superior. Unlike other softwares, Firefox is more practical, as it allows its users to make a large number of settings according to their preferences. This is why many people consider it easier to use and more responsive to their needs.

Don't get too excited on the idea, though. Baker said that it is actually a long term project and we should not be expecting a release very soon. The waiting might even not be in vain, as Mozilla has a long way to catch up to all other mobile phone Web browsers. Considering the high expectations coming from Firefox users, it proves to be quite understandable that they are not rushing into this.
