At the end of the past week, Mozilla made available a new corner of its official website, dedicated exclusively to Firefox 3.0. In addition to the overview of the latest version of the open source browser, Mozilla developers are ready to share their insight on various features with the general public. At this point in time there are just five videos available, but the promise is that more will follow. However, the company failed to indicate the timetable for the publication of additional content, or the subjects it will focus on.

“We’ve launched a new video section on Mozilla to help bring some of the many great features of Firefox alive. The feature-specific videos are narrated by the people who helped bring them to Firefox. The new video section even includes a walk through on how to install Firefox — perfect to help people make the switch,” a member of the Mozilla team revealed.

“The videos include (and the list is growing!): Firefox 3 overview; How to switch to Firefox with Asa Dotzler; security features in Firefox 3 with Johnathan Nightingale; bookmarks and tags with Alex Faaborg; and awesomebar with Seth Spitzer.”

Last week Mozilla released Firefox 3.0.5 and Firefox 2.0.0.19 and 2.0.0.20, namely security and stability updates for versions 3.0 and 2.0 of the open source browser. In this regard, with the release of Firefox 2.0.0.20, the company has now discontinued all updates for Firefox 2.0, and is advising users to upgrade as soon as possible to version 3.0.

Before the availability of Firefox 3.0.6, which is currently planned for February 2009, Mozilla indicated that it would deliver Firefox 3.1 Beta 3. Firefox 3.1, codenamed Shiretoko, will move out of Beta 2 stage in January 2009. Just as it is the case with Internet Explorer 8, which is expected in the first half of next year, Firefox 3.1 is also scheduled to go gold by mid-2009.
