Mozilla has just released a new version of Firefox that comes with the controversial Australis interface and provides users with a bunch of new features supposed to enhance the browsing experience on any supported platforms.

Firefox 29 brings the most significant change in the way the application works, but quite a lot of people have actually criticized Mozilla for making its browser look too much like Google Chrome. Mozilla, on the other hand, claims that the new Firefox was specifically designed to be easier to use and make it faster to access settings, add-ons, and your personal options.

“Australis is largest refinement of the Firefox interface in a long time, and it touches almost everything, from the big picture of overall layout to the tiny corners of icon design,” Mozilla said.

The tab bar has been refined with rounded corners and the application helps you easily make a difference between foreground and background tabs. The development teams says that this actually leads to a less cluttered tab bar that would only make browsing easier, especially when working with multiple tabs.

“Background tabs are visually de-emphasized, leaving a space that’s uncluttered and calm, where it’s quick and easy to see which tab is currently selected. Tabs also slide forward into focus as you mouse over them, so you can better see where you’re heading,” it said.

Firefox 29 with Australis comes with a new tab bar that helps makes a different between foreground and background tabs. The new customization menu is what sets it apart from the other browsers on the market because you have instant access to key features such as history, add-ons, developer tools, and full-screen mode.

“We realized that Australis was the perfect time to make browser customization easier and more discoverable. This provides power and control to people who have specific feature needs and allows them to create their own perfect setup while giving new users an understandable starting point,” Mozilla continued.

The browser now has a brand new customization screen that's supposed to make it easier for users to configure the buttons they wish to see.In case you do not like the new Australis interface, there still are some ways to get back to the old interface using some third-party add-ons. Of course, there's always the option to stay with Firefox 28, but be advised that no other updates and fixes would be released for this particular version, so at some point, no matter if you want it or not, you'll still have to update.
