We all know Southern California was recently assaulted by an impressive avalanche of wildfires which had a huge impact over the community of residents and their lives. Because of that, numerous organizations and companies encourage people all around the world to donate money and help the fire victims. Google is just one of those companies, the Mountain View giant designing a special website, which asks visitors for donations to the American Red Cross and to the Salvation Army. The donation system is powered by Google Checkout and can be accessed straight from the special Google page in case you're already logged in to your account and you have credit in it.

"The Southern California wildfires are coming under control, but for those who have been impacted by this disaster, the recovery has barely begun. Your donations to either of these organizations will help the victims of the fires and other disasters around the nation rebuild their communities, and their lives," Google wrote on the page. "Lots of people have pulled together to make maps with information about the fires, including the burn zones, evacuation alerts, evacuation centers, safe areas, and closed roads."

As you might know from the news, Google rolled out last week a special layer for Google Earth which was supposed to help the authorities track the wildfires from Southern California. In the past, the Mountain View company also took measures to help the victims of natural tragedies when the hurricane Katrina assaulted New Orleans. At that time, the authorities criticized Google for censoring the damages of the hurricane, although the super giant included the special imagery in a separate Google Earth layer.

In addition to the Google donations page, AFP also created a list of charities to support the wildfire victims available on this link.
