Today, Finnish wireless carrier DNA officially confirmed plans to make the first Sailfish-based Jolla smartphone available for purchase on its network, thus becoming the first operator in the world to release the device.

Furthermore, the company announced that it would be the only wireless carrier in Finland to make the smartphone available for its customers.

The Jolla device will be put up for sale through DNA Kauppa stores and online on the operator’s website, as well as via selected DNA retailers.

The Jolla smartphone was made official back in May, and it has already been put up for reservations, via its maker’s website.

“As a Finnish operator, we consider it important to support this new Finnish success story, in which we see enormous potential,” Pekka Väisänen, vice president for DNA's Consumer Business, stated.

“The partnership with Jolla reflects DNA's manner of doing business and is a fantastic example of the way in which we want to be involved in interesting innovations that bring real added value to their users. We boldly apply this start-up mentality to our own operations as well.”

The carrier also notes that it has been involved in the development of the Sailfish smartphone since the very beginning, and that it has influenced the design of the device, so as to make it fit for its users.

The handset will arrive on shelves with a 4.5-inch HD touchscreen display, a dual-core CPU, 16GB of internal memory, a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes, an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, and 4G LTE connectivity inside.

“It is valuable to find a good operator as a partner in the domestic market,” Jolla CEO Tomi Pienimäki commented on the announcement.

“The cooperation between DNA and Jolla has been extremely rewarding, and we place particular value on the feedback regarding the wishes of customers, received from an operator that knows its clientele. Our two companies are equally enthusiastic about the launch of Jolla smart phones at DNA Stores nationwide during the last quarter.”
