After Final Fantasy XIII failed to be the huge success Square Enix was expecting, it is now shifting its focus towards Final Fantasy XIV, the MMO set to be launched at some point during this year. And despite surprising everyone by making XIII a multiplatform title, outed at the same time on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft as on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, it seems the new videogame is not currently confirmed as coming to the former platform, although talks with the company are still ongoing.

In an interview for RPG Site, Hiromichi Tanaka, who is the producer behind Final Fantasy XIV, said that he is working on a “PS3 and Windows version of the game,” adding, “The PS3 version will be running in 720p in order to ensure performance remains high quality, but the PC version can go up to 1080p if your machine is powerful enough. We also support multiple displays, so players can use two or three displays to show the game.”

Final Fantasy XIV will take place in Eorzea, a region of a wider land called Hydaelyn. The threat of invasion has led to all the kingdoms in the area recruiting armies and preparing for war. As the invasion itself never came, all the army men and mercenaries were suddenly out of a job, needing to band together and go on adventures in order to make a living. The player is one such adventurer, who must draw on all his resources to survive and thrive in the game world.

The new MMO is set to abandon the level and experience-based system in favor of one emphasizing the weapons and tools the player uses and the advancement of skill linked to each of them. They will have access to four Disciplines and are free to mix and match abilities to create a unique character and playing style. The game is currently in beta stage, with those who bought the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIII free to take part in it.
