Probably before the end of the year

We already know that Final Fantasy XIII is set to be launched in Japan on December 17 in what is sure to be one of the biggest and most lavish releases of a JRPG ever. The game will only come on the PlayStation 3 at that date and Square Enix has not said when the game will arrive on Western markets, where it will be available for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Until now, only vague references have been made to spring 2010 but in a few weeks, fans of the series might get a more definitive date.

Square Enix seems to be getting ready for a big reveal, as shown by the casting call put out by Liz Paulson Casting, an agency based in Los Angeles, which said that it was looking for a certain voice actor who could read the lines for what it describes as an “exclusive, never before seen look at Final Fantasy XIII.” The text put out by the agency is mentioning that the final shot of the new ad will actually show the release date for the West.

The ad that Square Enix is envisioning will also show a short history of the Final Fantasy series, displaying its importance to the videogaming world and the role playing genre, and would also mention which are the main changes made in the upcoming game. Unfortunately, the casting call does not say when the envisioned ad is set to be released, presumably on the Web and on television, so eager fans will need to keep an eye out.

Final Fantasy XIII was initially believed to be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, with Microsoft causing quite a bit of surprise when it revealed that the Xbox 360 would also get the game. There has been speculation that the port of the JRPG caused a release and that if the PS3 had been the only platform, the West would have gotten the game on December 17, the same date as Japan.
