It may even get bigger

Square Enix is one of the most respected Japanese game developers of all time, owning what might be the most successful and well-known franchise coming from the Land of the Rising Sun, Final Fantasy. The series made the JRPG genre famous and took Western markets by storm thanks to a few popular iterations.

But with the upcoming Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix is really pushing everything to its limit. It is the first game to appear on the Xbox 360 and not just the PlayStation 3, meaning that the development team will have to make do with what the North American console throws at them.

One such thing is the limited storage capacity of the DVDs that the console currently supports, which is much smaller than the Blu-ray discs supported by the PlayStation 3. Speaking with Kotaku, the director of Final Fantasy XIII, Motomu Toriyama, revealed that, while the versions made for the two consoles would have identical content, those who own a Microsoft console needed to get off of the couch more, as the end version would probably ship on “about” three discs.

But you will be getting a lot of content though, as he continued by revealing that we should expect 40 to 50 hours of gameplay from the title and only from the main quest alone, so the big number of side quests might even double the amount of time you will spend playing this title.

Toriyama also tackled the fact that Japanese language tracks wouldn't be featured in the Western versions of the game, as only those who bought it from Japan could enjoy it. Thus the dreams of many fans to see a dual-language option in the game are pretty much shattered.

Look forward to Final Fantasy XIII this winter if you live in Japan and next year for the rest of the world.
