A rumor from the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu states that in the coming months Final Fantasy XIII-2 will get a significant piece of downloadable content that will allow gamers to both recruit former main character Lightning and then take her through a number of narrative episodes.

The developers working on Final Fantasy XIII-2 at Square Enix confirmed during the development process for the game that they would include Lightning as a character that could be fought in Coliseum matches, but never mentioned that she would be included in the story side of the game.

The report from Famitsu says that players will meet the leading lady in a one on one battle and if they manage to defeat her, they will get the ability to call on her aid and abilities in battle while also exploring a new side of her story in a number of secret episodes.

The rumor also talks about a number of other coliseum battles with boss battles from the past of the Final Fantasy series, which will be delivered all through 2012.

At the moment Final Fantasy XIII-2 has been launched in Japan and gamers will be able to get it in North America on January 31 and on February 3 in Europe, on both the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft.

The game was supposed to deliver on all the promises that Square Enix has made about the original Final Fantasy XIII-2 release and create a game which is less linear and offers many more options when it comes to the battles.

But those who have played the Japanese release of the title have complained that Square Enix has failed to deliver a story engaging long term fans.

During the first month, Final Fantasy XIII-2 posted a worse performance than any other titles in the modern history of the series, regardless of the platform on which they were launched.
