Square Enix confirmed it would bring Final Fantasy IV: The After Years on Android and iOS platform back in September, but no exact release date has been disclosed at that time.

The teaser released in mid-September pointed to a Q4 2013 release, so fans of the franchise had to wait a few more months for the game to get released on both platforms.

Today, Square Enix announced the immediate availability of Final Fantasy IV: The After Years for Android and iOS. The game can be purchase via Google Play and App Store, respectively for quite a sum.

The good news is Final Fantasy IV: The After Years is a full 3D remake, and classic characters that appeared in Final Fantasy IV make their return alongside several new heroes, including Ceodore, son of Cecil and Rosa.

According to developers, there are ten playable tales available for Android users. You can begin your journey with “Ceodore's Tale” and after it’s completed you will be able to unlock the tales of six additional characters, which can be played in any order.

Furthermore, Square Enix states that after these six tales are completed as well, players can then return to the core story with “Kain's Tale,” “The Lunarian's Tale,” and “The Crystals.”

The game features Square Enix’s iconic battle system dubbed “Active Time Battle” and features full Google Play Game support that offers players dozens of achievements that can be completed. Check out below an excerpt of the game’s background story:

“Seventeen years have passed since the war's end, and the son born to King Cecil and Queen Rosa of Baron has grown into a young man. Prince Ceodore has enlisted in the airship fleet known as the Red Wings, eager to meet the expectations demanded of his blood and station.

“Yet once more another moon has appeared in the sky, and with it vast hordes of monsters intent on destruction. The brief peace enjoyed by the Blue Planet now stands threatened under the shadow of impending catastrophe.”

You can now download Final Fantasy IV: The After Years for Android for £10.99/€14.49/$19.99 via Google Play store. The game should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.3 and up.

Keep in mind that the game cannot be launched on devices running Android 4.4 with Android RunTime (ART) enabled.
