Apple has recently released the Pro Applications Update 2008-01, a revision to Final Cut Studio 2.0, which includes Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 and Compressor 3.0.3. An issue with opening projects is now resolved, still images are now exported at their native aspect ratio, fixed reconnecting files with slashes in the filename is also included.

The update "addresses specific customer issues, installation issues, compatibility updates, general performance issues and improves overall stability," according to the Cupertino-based corporation. As usual, "this update is recommended for all users of Final Cut Studio 2.0 and later."

When opening some projects, Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 would sometimes erroneously display a message warning that the project was unreadable or too new for that version of Final Cut Pro. If that's you, then worry no more as this issue has been resolved in Final Cut Pro 6.0.3.

When using Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 to export video to formats compatible with Apple TV, iPhone, or iPod the video was scaled to the correct aspect ratio, while exported still images were also scaled, leading to a loss in quality, as some users have reported. Now, using QuickTime conversion in Final Cut Pro 6.0.3 has still images exported at their native aspect ratio.

Also, when using multiple filters in a mixed-format sequence, Final Cut Pro now correctly uses the aspect ratio of the individual clip and not that of the overall sequence.

Some users will also recall that performing an XML import in previous versions of Final Cut Pro would result in failure to reconnect offline files that contained slashes (/) in the filename. Those users should be glad to hear that Final Cut Pro can now reconnect offline files that have slashes in their filenames.

As far as Compressor 3.0.3 is concerned, more Final Cut Studio users will change their state of mind knowing that the app adds Anamorphic Pixel Options for Apple TV. That's right, anamorphic (non-square) pixel aspect ratios is now included as an option to create media files for Apple TV. The pixels are scaled by Apple TV to fit the intended aspect ratio during playback, according to Apple. Compressor 3.0.3 also adds a new item in the Device pop-up menu of the H.264 for Apple Devices Encoder pane.
