New Zealand-based Factorial Ltd. has released ClipTouch 1.0, an application that has been specifically designed for owners of an Apple iPad.

Described as the Final Cut Server client for the iPad, ClipTouch connects directly to any Final Cut Server (v1.5.1 or later) without requiring any additional configuration.

Once connected, it allows users to browse, share, collaborate, and present video clips in a totally new way, Factorial claims.

“Browse, review and approve your video assets, taking advantage of the mobility of the iPad, and its unique Multi-Touch interface,” the company states in the app’s description.

“Use iPads as review tools instead of having to maintain costly review workstations. Browse assets anywhere anytime over WiFi, 3G and VPN,” Factorial explains.

Key features of ClipTouch include:

– No server configuration required – Search and discover assets – Directly download and view clip proxies – Supports the default Final Cut Server proxy setting – Clip timecode display – Change asset metadata – View and add Final Cut Server annotations – Respects permission sets based on your login – Supports direct and VPN network connections over Wi-Fi and 3G

ClipTouch is compatible only with the Apple iPad, and requires the relatively new iOS 4.2 software update to work.

Other requirements include Final Cut Server 1.5.1 or later, access to server ports 8821 and 8826, access to the internet, and login defined on the server or in Open Directory. Active Directory is not supported, according to Factorial.

Headquartered in Wellington, New Zealand, Factorial is an independent IT consultancy focusing on Apple platforms.

It writes software for both Mac OS X and iOS, and is actively developing broadcast and post-production workflows.

Available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Productivity category, ClipTouch 1.0 costs $14.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies).
