Video production software Final Cut Pro X has received a timely update to address various issues and to improve stability and reliability.

If an external drive or a network is disconnected while consolidating a library, FCP X 10.1.1 now preserves media files.

Timeline responsiveness has been improved (especially when dealing with very large projects), and any issues you may have been experiencing while loading audio content in the Music and Sound Browser should no longer occur.

Other fixes are highlighted below.

• Fixes a stability issue when applying a Motion effect with Scroll Text behavior • Faster switching between proxy and original/optimized media

“Completely redesigned from the ground up, Final Cut Pro adds extraordinary speed, quality, and flexibility to every part of the post-production workflow,” Apple says.

For users who haven’t yet updated to version 10.1 a lot of new stuff is available, like optimizations for the new Mac Pro (Late 2013), including faster playback and rendering using the dual GPUs, 4K support via Thunderbolt 2 and HDMI, 4K titles, transitions, and generators, etc.

“Final Cut Pro uses all the GPUs in your Mac for superior real-time playback performance and fast background rendering,” the company adds.

Other new features include: • Option to import media to locations inside or outside a library • Project Snapshots let you quickly capture the project state for fast versioning • Automatically back up libraries to a user-specified drive or network location • Make video or audio-only edits into the timeline with Multicam Clips as sources

To download FCP X 10.1.1 users need OS X v10.9 Mavericks, 4GB of RAM (8GB recommended for 4K), OpenCL-capable graphics card or Intel HD Graphics 3000 or later, 256MB of VRAM (1GB recommended for 4K), and around 3.5GB of storage space.
