Taiwan is accusing the Philippines of attacking a fishing boat and killing a fisherman

Several high-profile Philippines websites, including ones belonging to the country’s government, have been disrupted by distributed denial-of-service (DDOS) attacks. These seem to originate from Taiwan.

The cyberattacks come shortly after the Taiwanese government accused the Philippine Coast Guard of opening fire on a Taiwanese fishing vessel, killing one fisherman, GMA News reports.

On Thursday, Taiwan demanded an apology. However, the Philippines is still investigating the incident, so the government has not issued an official apology.

It appears that Taiwanese hacktivists are putting pressure on the Philippines by attacking their websites.

The list of targets includes several media sites, and the websites of the Department of National Defense, the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Philippine Army, the Philippine Navy, the Philippines News Agency, the National Police, the Department of Science and Technology, and many others.

At the time of writing, none of the government websites were accessible.
