14 DAY TRIAL // Apple subsidiary FileMaker has announced FileMaker Go for iPhone and iPad, the company’s new applications that give mobile users access to FileMaker Pro databases, anywhere. Now available now on the iTunes App Store, FileMaker Go allows users to easily view, edit and search for information in FileMaker databases on their iPhone or iPad.
“The two new Apps let users access databases created with FileMaker Pro and hosted on FileMaker Server or FileMaker Pro; ideal for mobile teams,” explains FileMaker. “And FileMaker Go users can also copy databases between their desktop or laptop computers and FileMaker Go via File Sharing in iTunes; perfect for single user databases. Databases may also be downloaded by email, popular file sharing sites, or the web,” the software vendor says.
The software provides access to databases created with FileMaker Pro and hosted on FileMaker Server. Go can access databases on both Macs and PCs using a local wireless network or over the Internet. Changes are instantly updated in the hosted file, as long as there’s a wireless internet connection (WiFi or cellular). To copy databases between their desktop computers or laptops, customers can also employ iTunes for its file sharing features. Additionally, databases are also downloadable by email, or popular file sharing sites, the app’s makers said.
On its web site, FileMaker notes the top uses for its new iOS app. Those include:
- Conduct inventory checks while in the warehouse - Generate sales orders at a customer site - Track shipping and receiving activities - Check in attendees onsite for an event - Update project status while traveling - Verify student class schedules in the hallway - Add research notes while in the field - Evaluate teacher performance in the classroom
The software goes for $19.99 for the iPhone version and $39.99 for the iPad version, and requires iOS 4 on the iPhone front, and iOS 3.2 on the tablet owners’ end.
