Google Calendar lets you do that!

Watching "Back into the Future", the movie that somehow changed my childhood's normal path, has had me searching for stories like this. Digital Inspiration has noticed a little something and has let the world know that you can send email and text messages to yourself in the future.

The means to do it is to simply use Google Calendar and schedule an alert for any future date, filled with details and so on. I wonder what I'll say a couple decades from now, when I'll be alerted that it's about time I started calling everybody I know just to catch up. It's a period of calm and relaxation now for me, that's what's wrong with the message. I wonder whether or not I'll obey myself, if I tell myself to go and buy that red sports car that every middle aged man feels the need to own when he reaches a certain period.

Jokes aside, it's a little weird to be able to do that, don't get me wrong, it's been done before with the online cards that could be scheduled a year ahead, but this is almost too easy and accessible for it to feel real. I think I could just write anything to myself and be certain that I'd do it "for old times' sake". I wonder if Hitler had had this tool at hand, would he have changed the attack in Russia in order to get the oil fields in the south rather than continuing his triumphant march to Moscow and Stalingrad?

Future is now within our reach, so be careful what you tell your future self, you might have a greater influence on him than you may think! Or, you could just forget that you have this means of contacting yourself at hand and just let time work its magic.
