The recent economic downturn has not failed to leave a dent in our wellbeing and, as strange as this may initially sound, it seems that women are more stressed by the recession than men, as a recent Forbes report indicates. Since chronic stress is known to be responsible for many of today’s affections, it’s ideal that we try to fight it, or at least make it less severe, the best way we can.

Women, specialists say, can best handle difficult situations and eliminate some stress from their life by hitting the gym. This allows them to break free from the daily office routine and household concerns, having been proven to really “recharge one’s batteries,” as the saying goes. Nevertheless, there is no better way to fight stress than some “me” time, a short period of time in which all worries are left aside and, for once, the focus is on one’s own person.

The “me” time or date can mean plenty of things, depending on the woman in question, specialists say, but, no matter which one it means, each of us should have such a thing. Be it getting a pedicure, or going to a spa session, reading a good book or some other indoor routine that breaks us off from the outside world, it’s recommended that we all find a “customized” method of fighting stress. Of course, if we can find the time to fit in something that implies the outdoors and physical exercise, then it would be like killing two birds with just one stone, it is said.

Oppositely, if family and work – or just work – take up too much of our time to have at least half an hour to dispose of as we choose, there is always the option of the “me” break. This is nothing too complicated, since it can be taken anytime, anywhere, and is guaranteed to bring about a boost in our outlook on life. It implies stopping from whatever it is that we’re doing when we feel the most stressed, and just taking five minutes to rest our mind. This is done by either calling to mind things that make us smile, or by trying our best to stop thinking about those that make our life a complete chaos.

If none of the methods above are doable, for one reason or another, then there’s always the “me” day. We should make Saturday or Sunday our day, a day when we only do as we like and forget about everything else, specialists say. Either way, some “me” time is a must in today’s stressful environment.
