While most secondary monitors out there have a fairly small diagonal size (typically, in the 7 to 11-inch range), the people over at Mobile Monitor Technologies have decided to try a completely different approach to this product segment and introduced the Field Monitor Pro, a secondary display featuring a very wide display, with a 15.4-inch diagonal. Without a doubt, the large-size display, that provides an 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, represents the Field Monitor Pro's main selling point, since it makes it roughly the same size as the display of a mid-range notebook.

However, the Field Monitor Pro is a lot more portable than most other flat panel monitors out there, since it has a height of 0.78 inches in front / 1.4 inches in the back, a 14-inch width, a 10.7-inch depth and a weight of around 4 pounds.

Although it can be easily used by mobile road warriors who need a second monitor when in the field, it would seem that the device has been designed principally with accountants in mind in order to assist with field audit work, and, for this reason, it comes equipped with a numerical keypad.

Plus, to help protect the display while being carried from one location to the next, the monitor folds inwards to spare the screen from inadvertent knocks and scratches, while also featuring 2 Kensington security locks.

Although it can be powered via one of its 2 USB 2 ports when connected to a computer, the Field Monitor Pro also comes with an external AC adapter, which might come in handy when used for accounting purposes (together with the aforementioned keypad).

Unfortunately, even if its features might have gotten you interested, you won't be able to get the Field Monitor Pro this year, given the fact that the device from Mobile Monitor Technologies will only go on sale at some point in 2011, at a price tag yet to be disclosed (don't expect it to be affordable, though).
