The Ferrari Racing Portable Navigator

It's quite a well-known fact that Acer is one of the sponsors of Ferrari's Formula 1 racing team. This is the reason why they've already launched 2 Ferrari-branded products up until now, an LCD monitor and a laptop, which proved to be quite successful with the fans (especially hardcore Ferrari fans, that is). However, it seems that the company has decided to extend its partnership to an area more related to automobiles, and launched at Computex 2007 the Ferrari Racing Portable Navigator, a GPS handheld that will help Ferrari drivers find their way, both on and off the racing track.

According to the reporters from Aving.net (lucky enough to be on the premises of Computex), the device is quite an interesting one, albeit its value relies more in the outer design and name than in the features themselves. Thus, the Ferrari navigator (also known as the Ferrari Racing Pocket PC Travel companion) has quite an attractive design, dominated by the Ferrari red and black colors. Moreover, it sports a 2.8-inch QVGA display, large enough to allow users to view the navigation maps (provided by Navteq) even in bright sunlight.

Acer's navigator sports just about all the features one might expect from a modern, mid-range PDA with GPS capabilities. Thus, it includes a SiRF Star III receiver, and comes packed with the ALK CoPilot v6.0 premium navigation software, which allows users to customize routing profiles and create their own voice sets on the fly, but also overlay real time traffic information over the navigation maps, which could prove extremely useful, especially for long-distance drivers.

The Ferrari navigator also comes packed with certain multimedia features, including the possibility of listening to music of viewing photos on the go. This is possible due to the fact that the device includes an SD/MMC expansion slot, which can be used for adding either supplementary maps or various types of multimedia content. Moreover, the device also incorporates a few important connectivity options, including here Wireless LAN and Bluetooth.

Quite obviously, there's no info on either price or availability for now, but one thing's for sure: the device will most certainly become the navigation solution of choice for quite a large number of people, especially Ferrari owners and fans.
