The budget for Fedora events is being discussed

Every week seems to be a challenging one to the Fedora community, just like the last week. Fedora Unity released an updated Fedora 8 Re-Spin, the old Fedora test releases were purged and the Fedora Ambassadors are discussing the budget for the events that will take place all over the globe, this year.

Jesse Keating posted on the fedora-announce and fedora-devel-announce lists a message in which he stated that a snapshot of Rawhide, in Live form, was released and it's available only through torrents. He stated: "As part of our development schedule, we are releasing a snapshot of Rawhide in Live form. We are releasing these via bittorrent only as it is a much lighter weight method to get bits out the door than to go through our mirroring system. If you cannot use bittorrent we apologize for the inconvenience."

Again, Jesse Keating announced that all the old test releases from Fedora's download page would be purged, including both Core and post-Core test versions up to Fedora 9 Beta. This measure was taken to free some space for Fedora 9 and the releases that will come after it.

Max Spevack announced on the fedora-ambassadors list about the way the budget will be allocated for Fedora Ambassadors, events and media for the following two months. He explained the way the fiscal year is divided and said that, for every quarter of the year, a sum of $12,000 is allocated for "global events and swag" (I presume that means souvenirs, wearables and gifts).

For Q1 of this year, there have been spent almost $3,000 for events like FOSDEM and NOTACON, an OLPC for EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), etc. There are still approximately $9,000, which will be given to events that will take place all over the world. Most of the money will go to Asia and North America, while EMEA will receive the smallest fund of only $1,500.

There are only ten security advisories for Fedora 7 and 8, which is a good thing if we think about it (could this mean that Fedora has increased its security?). Let's see the ones for Fedora 7:

■ seamonkey-1.1.9-1.fc7 ■ mod_suphp-0.6.3-1.fc7 ■ gnome-screensaver-2.18.2-3.fc7 ■ centerim-4.22.4-1.fc7.1 ■ phpMyAdmin-2.11.5.1-1.fc7

And now, those for Fedora 8:

■ phpMyAdmin-2.11.5.1-1.fc8 ■ seamonkey-1.1.9-1.fc8 ■ centerim-4.22.4-1.fc8 ■ mod_suphp-0.6.3-1.fc8 ■ gnome-screensaver-2.20.0-11.fc8
