After having proposed a Fedora Cinnamon Spin for the upcoming Fedora 23 Linux operating system, Jan Kurik, Program Manager at Red Hat, published details of the proposal of a very interesting edition of Fedora, the Fedora Netizen Spin.

Long story short, Fedora Netizen Spin aims to be a special edition of Fedora Linux that has the ultimate goal of supporting and promoting internet citizenship, as well as citizen engagement. How awesome is that?

"Fedora Netizen is an open source operating system for enabling internet citizens to engage with online services and communities," reads the Fedora Netizen Spin's description. "The goal for Netizen is to pattern the operating system's features after Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs which was published in his 1943 paper, 'A Theory of Human Motivation.'"

For whom will the Fedora Netizen Spin be designed?

According to the preliminary documentation, the Fedora Netizen Spin operating system will be targeted at alternative, new users who do not fall under an existing Fedora strategy. These include activists, political advocates, researchers, citizens, and volunteers.

Additionally, Fedora Netizen Spin aims to attract potential new users from various institutions and organizations from the charity and public sectors, including NPOs (Nonprofit Organizations), government agencies, research institutes, and political action committees.

To achieve its goals, Fedora Netizen Spin must have a custom theme that will provide the look and feel needed for attracting new users from the categories mentioned above. Of course, the Netizen theme will replace the current default theme of Fedora Linux, which means that it might be based on the Fedora Workstation edition.

The targeted release of the Fedora Netizen Spin distribution is Fedora 23. As expected, the Netizen Spin of Fedora Linux will be distributed as Live CD ISO images. At the moment, there's no news on what software packages will be included.
