A memo from FBI agent Guy Hottel, giving details on flying saucers in an account that dates back to 1950, is arguably the most sought-after document on the Bureau's website.

At about 1 million views, the documents speaks of circular flying objects spotted in New Mexico and their passengers, all donning metallic getups.

“They were described as being circular in shape with raised centers, approximately 50 feet (15.3 m) in diameter.

“Each one was occupied by three bodies of human shape but only three feet (90 cm) tall, dressed in metallic cloth of a very fine texture. Each body was bandaged in a manner similar to the blackout suits used by speed fliers and test pilots,” it reads.

The FBI explains in a blog post that they never investigated the claim, which did not come from a credible source.

They wrote the whole thing off as a hoax, after a series of similar pranks that led agents on post-Roswell wild goose chases.
