Brought on by the escalating rate of divorces in the developed world, a new study sought to figure out precisely how much influence mothers and fathers have on the development of their children's personalities. Men and women were found to be equally important.

The prevailing view, until now, has been that mothers are more important in a child's life than fathers. Scientists suggested that the unique social and emotional bond that forms between women and their kids surpasses all other connections.

However, a new research has demonstrated that this is not the case. Fathers were found to play an equally important role, sometimes exceeding the importance of mothers when it came to influencing their children's personalities.

According to PsychCentral, the new study also suggests that mothers are incorrectly blamed for the behavior problems that their children may be displaying. “In fact, fathers are often more implicated than mothers in the development of problems such as these,” experts say.
