The students hope to break the previous 8.08 mph (roughly 13 kph) record

Students at the University of Warwick are now busy working on a human-powered submarine which they hope will turn out to be the fastest one ever built.

The students expect that their submarine will be up and running by July 2014, when they wish to enter it into the European International Submarine Race 2014.

They may not have finished building it yet, but these students have already named their submarine: the HPS Shakespeare.

Sources say that the previous speed record for a human-powered submarine is held by a team from Montreal.

Since this record-holding submarine managed to swim through the water at the top speed of 8.08 mph (roughly 13 kph) while relying only on human power, there is no denying that the Warwick students sure have a lot of work on their hands.

Here's hoping we'll soon hear from these students again.
