Celebrities stepped out for the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards ceremony

Last night, celebrities came out to play at the landmark New York Public Library and celebrated the 26th annual edition of the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards ceremony by putting on their best, most expensive and impressive clothes and taking advantage of the chance for a little free publicity. The CFDA awards are common ground for designers, singers and fashionistas who have tried their hand at a little bit of both - the ultimate place to see and be seen wearing an expensive dress, a fake tan and a good-looking husband or boyfriend.

So popular was the event this year that it ended up causing a serious traffic jam outside the New York Public Library where the ceremony was held. Which is, of course, quite understandable, given that the likes of Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell, Eva Mendes and Kim Cattrall rubbed shoulders with famous designers such as Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Vera Wang or Carolina Herrera.

As a mark of respect for legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent, who passed away on Sunday in his Paris home, many of the celebrities donned Yves Saint Laurent couture - Naomi Campbell wore vintage Yves Saint Laurent sequin pants and a sheer blouse, while CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg put on a vintage YSL tuxedo-style pantsuit.

Victoria Beckham stood out in a ruffled Marc Jacobs dress and didn't miss the opportunity to have her picture taken alongside the designer himself, with whom she is said to be good friends. She also posed alongside Naomi Campbell and Eva Longoria before taking to the stage next to Eva Mendes and Maggie Gyllenhaal to introduce Jacobs who presented the award for Womenswear Designer of the Year.
