They say Lady Gaga is the hottest thing in pop music and fashion – at least as far as singers can be trendsetters, a label that the “Poker Face” songstress is clearly mighty proud of. However, being such a huge fashionista does come with downsides as well, since not everybody might be open to Gaga’s outfits. The Russian police certainly weren’t when the singer visited Moscow a while back, EntertainmentWise says.

According to the publication, Lady Gaga was recently visiting Moscow and doing mostly tourist stuff when police officers stopped her because she was dressed funny – or, to put it differently, had too few clothes on her. Initially, Gaga revealed in a recent interview with The Sun, police officers mistook her for a streetwalker and had trouble believing she wasn’t even when she took out her ID and tried to convince them that she was a famous singer.

“I was having a little photo shoot [with fans] and all of a sudden the police came out of nowhere and clapped their fingers.” Gaga told the Sun, as quoted by the aforementioned publication. It was then that she realized they were mistaking her for something else, and stepped up to reveal her true identity. Just like last time when her killer fashion sense got her in trouble with the law, more or less, this time too, Gaga got off without even the slightest warning.

And this is precisely what makes her the kind of icon that she is, as fashion insiders state. Lady Gaga’s appeal does not necessarily reside in dressing funky, and certainly not in her obstinacy of not wearing pants, they say, but rather in the fact that she does all this while also coming off as the real deal, as if not even trying. This is also what the singer says of herself in a recent post on her MySpace page: I am what I am, and what you see is what you get.

“The biggest misconception about me is I’m a character or a persona. That when the lights and cameras turn off, I turn into a pumpkin. It’s simply not true. I make music and art and design all day long. Yes, I wash my face and go to sleep but when I wake up, I am always Lady Gaga.” the singer wrote yesterday on MySpace.
