Fashion Accessory or USB Flash Drive? Actually, Coolkii Offers Both

Since the number of USB flash drives available on the market has increased quite a lot over the past few years, manufacturers are trying their best to make their products more attractive for specific consumer segments. And while certain people are looking for drives that provide huge storage capacities, others are searching for a fashionable technological item that will compliment their other high-tech devices. This is the reason why the people over at Coolkii came up with the Ultim Kii and Fashion Kii, two very blingy devices that will certainly draw the fashionistas' attention.

Due to the fact that these are mainly "blingy" devices, we shouldn't really expect anything special from them, as far as the technical specs go. Thus, the "memory jewels" are available in two versions, providing either 1 or 2 GB of storage space, and connect to a host computer via an USB 2.0 interface, which means that they can attain a maximum data transfer rate of 480 Mbps. Furthermore, the access speeds provided by the Flash memory are not that bad, but they're far from top-range, namely around 13 MB/sec reading speed and 10 MB/sec writing speed.

Quite obviously, since they're especially designed as fashion accessories, the drives are extremely portable, measuring around 35mm x 15mm x 3mm, at a weight of solely 5 grams. Moreover, they can be easily attached to any mobile phone or bag, and are also water resistant (although, it's probably a good idea to try and keep them as dry as possible).

However, the pricing of the "USB memory jewels" is far from great. OK, we're talking about some pretty visually-impressive devices, but paying either 38 or 41 US dollars (the Ultim Kii or the Fashion Kii) for 1 GB (and an extra $10 for the 2 GB version) seems a little bit exaggerated, taking into account the technical features these things have to offer.
