14 DAY TRIAL // Actress Farrah Fawcett, arguably the most adored of the original Charlie’s Angels, is now a Barbie doll. Called the Farrah Barbie, the new Mattel offering has already sold out at various outlets, prompting many to say it’s an instant collectable.
Modeled on the famous 1976 poster that sold in over 10 million copies, the new Barbie comes complete with a red one-piece swimsuit, the Farrah hair and the extra touch of glitz of a gold chain around the neck.
The Daily Mail reports that fans of the late actress, who passed away in 2009 after a long and brave battle with cancer, rushed to buy the doll that came out in mid-July – it’s now sold out in various locations.
Being a limited edition ensures its status as a collector’s item.
“They went on sale in mid-July, retailing from $34.95 – and are already sold out on a number of websites, including Walmart and K-Mart. Part of the proceeds from the sales will go to the Farrah Fawcett Foundation,” the Mail informs.
Good friend of the actress Alana Stewart says that Farrah would have loved to know that she can contribute even more to a good cause and that her fans are helping her reach out to fellow cancer sufferers.
“We’re all very excited about it, it’s a great tribute to her and part of the proceeds go to the foundation to benefit cancer research and help people,” Stewart is quoted as saying.
“Her aim was really to help in cutting edge research and to help people that are actually struggling with cancer now, so that’s really the mission of the foundation,” Farrah’s friend adds.
“It’s really wonderful for her memory and for her legacy and for her fans,” Stewart concludes.
The Mail notes that this is not the first Barbie that the late actress got: back in 1997, Mattel came out one such doll dressed in a white swimsuit. Clearly, she was probably not as popular as this one.
