The bill to make the Farmers Field stadium the most environmentally friendly in the United States has recently passed out of the California State Senate and the State Assembly, it has now went to the governor for his signature.

Set to be located in the city of Los Angeles, Farmers Field is the first LEED-certified stadium in the NFL. The stadium is also legally required to be 100% carbon neutral, including emissions generated from fan’s car-trips to and from the stadium.

Sports and entertainment giant AEG, who is behind the Farmers Field project, also aims for carbon neutrality for all emissions related to energy consumption and mechanical operation of the stadium.

"Investing in sustainable construction and weaving carbon and waste programs into the fabric of a venue, its operations and its surroundings creates the lowest impact on our environment and the greatest return for the company," said S. Richard Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chairman, U.S. Green Building Council.

Additional measures, including water conservation, recycling and composting programs, and charitable donation initiatives give Farmers Field the "most comprehensive environmental program in the sports and entertainment industry," said Tim Leiweke, AEG president and CEO.

In addition to that, AEG intends to go as far as to try and separate fans from their cars during NFL games that are to be played at Farmers Field.

The company has it sight set on a transportation plan that will give Farmers Field the lowest ratio of fans to automobiles of any NFL stadium.

Aside from a zero carbon footprint, Farmers Field will also generate an estimated 23,000 jobs in the LA area, including 12,000 full-time jobs during the construction process and 11,000 more permanent jobs at the convention center.

The stadium is set for completion by 2015 and will be permanently monitored for environmental performance and efficiency once its doors open.
