14 DAY TRIAL // Far Cry 4 is already shaping up to be one of the most visually impressive experiences that will be launched this year, and the development team at Ubisoft announces that gamers will be able to explore a colorful and mythological land of Shangri-La in the upcoming title.
In a new blog, the studios working on the first-person shooter explain that gamers will have to touch one of the five thangkas spread all over the game world in order to for main character Ajay Ghale to meditate and enter the mythical land.
Here, he will be able to experience the story of legendary warrior Kalinag, who pairs up with an armored white tiger in order to battle the demonic forces of the Rakshasa.
In Shangri-La, gamers who love the Far Cry formula will have to abandon modern weapons in order to use a knife to take out enemies up close and a bow that also has the power to slow time in order to make combat a little easier.
The enemies included in the new area include a Lurker, who has a dog-like companion and a bow, a Butcher, powerful and able to teleport during combat to attack from another position, and the Scorchers.
Maxime Beland, the creative studio advisor for Ubisoft Toronto, the team working on the Shangri-La area of Far Cry 4, says that Ubisoft wants to create an interesting mythology for gamers to explore while keeping the realism of the series.
He states, “We didn’t want to have enemies that were just lurking around, waiting for you to kill them. So we really put emphasis on the Sacred Under Attack. As you play I think you’re going to see a lot of those horrible, brutal little things that make you go, Okay, I really need to take care of this situation quickly.”
Alex Hutchinson, the leading designer for the entire title, adds, “Shangri-La is one of the founding myths of Kyrat. While we were developing the game, we thought: We’re going to invent this country. A country isn’t just the land. It’s also the history of the place and what its inhabitants believe in.”
The events in Shangri-La will influence the real world of Kyrat and the actions of the main character, as he can gain access to new skills and he can better understand the motivation of locals.
Far Cry 4 will be launched on November 18 on the PC, the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and last-gen consoles.
