14 DAY TRIAL // Video game publisher Ubisoft announces that it is working on a fourth full installment in the Far Cry series which is set to be launched on November 18 in the United States and two days later in Europe on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the PS3, the Xbox One, the 360 and the PC.
The game is being created by the main studio in Montreal with additional contributions coming from Red Storm Entertainment, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai and Ubisoft Kiev.
The official announcement, quoted by AllGamesBeta, explains that gamers will be able to travel to Kyrat, a beautiful and wild region of the Himalayas which is at the moment dominated by a self-appointed king that has slid into despotism.
Players will be able to use a varied array of weapons, vehicles and, weirdly, animals in order to depose him and create an entirely new history for the kingdom.
Dan Hay, the executive producer working on Far Cry 4, states, "Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations."
He adds, "Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months."
The team explains that the familiar open world structure of the series will be kept and that a series of innovations to the first-person shooter formula will be introduced in order to deliver some surprises for players.
Ubisoft is already allowing gamers to place pre-orders for Far Cry 4 and all those who do so at the moment will automatically get a Limited Edition for the title, which will include Hurk’s Redemption, a series of three single-player missions that will feature Hurk from Far Cry 3’s downloadable content.
Players will also be able to use The Impaler, a special harpoon gun, to take out their enemies.
More information about Far Cry 4 and a first look at actual gameplay is promised for E3 2014.
Far Cry 4 has been rumored as being in development for some time and it's likely that the developers have created a new experience that aims to keep the core elements of the shooter franchise, while also introducing changes that the fan base will appreciate.
It will be interesting to see whether the 2014 launch date can be respected.
