Far Cry 4 has just received quite a lot more details about its general gameplay, with Director Alex Hutchinson confirming that players will be able to do a lot of things in the new first-person shooter and that a hardcore mode could be added if there's enough interest.

Far Cry 4 was officially revealed to the world in a great way at E3 2014 and Ubisoft has since shared quite a lot of different details about the game and how it will add plenty of changes to the recipe seen in the previous game, Far Cry 3.

Now, Director Alex Hutchinson has talked with GameInformer and revealed, via NeoGAF, quite a few more concrete details about the gameplay in the new first-person shooter.

First up, the general map size is similar to the one in Far Cry 3 but, due to the mountain terrain, it's much denser. There will be an avalanche set-piece moment but players won't be able to trigger them whenever they want.

While the regular experience will be similar to the one in Far Cry 3, the team is considering a possible hardcore mode that includes all sorts of dangers like hypothermia, diseases, or permanent death, but only if there's enough interest from fans.

In terms of story, the plot has different endings and they won't be offered to players as binary choices right at the end. Instead, players can pick sides and factions in certain conflicts and this will influence the overall conclusion of the narrative.

What's more, after receiving some criticism from players about the quick-time events in the boss fights of Far Cry 3, Hutchinson mentioned that in the new title these things won't be present. Instead, players can interrupt some cinematics with their actions but these sequences won't be signaled. As such, fans need to figure out for themselves what scenes they can or cannot influece.

There will be a competitive multiplayer in Far Cry 4, besides the already-confirmed cooperative experience, but no details were offered. Hutchinson did say that the team wasn't thrilled with the reception of Far Cry 3's online mode and wants to do other things in order to keep players happy.

The team behind Far Cry views the games as more of a series than a franchise, as it doesn't need to worry about narrative baggage. This factors in to what Dean Evans and his team are doing. It might not be blood dragon 2, but rather something unexpected

In terms of single-player, fans once again have the possibility of resetting outposts they've already conquered and Hutchinson said that a story reason will be offered for this mechanic, so that it doesn't break the immersion.

Expect to hear much more about Far Cry 4 ahead of its release this fall on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
