The game will keep the essence of the series while adding a dash of crazy

The Far Cry series has been widely praised for its gameplay mechanics and the complete freedom it offered to the player, but at least one developer working on its latest installment hopes that it can also make its story inspiring.

Jeffrey Yohalem, who is the leading writer working on Far Cry 3, has told MCV Pacific during an interview that, “We’re really trying to take the player on a journey and we’re trying to subvert expectations in the same way that Mechner did in Prince of Persia.

“You can see the protagonist’s psychology when you’re in the dreamlike levels where you’re playing through what’s going on in his head. It’s very much a psychological action game.”

He added, “I’m working with Far Cry 3’s creative director Pat Plourde, who is an absolute genius. Our visions are very much in parallel and we push each other in both directions, so for us, the core of the game was this sense of a Stranger in a Strange Land.”

The core ideas of the franchise are the stalking of the enemy and the use of the environment to the player’s advantage and Yohalem says that these elements will be integrated into Far Cry 3.

But the scope of the experience will be extended by integrating a narrative thread that the developer compares to that Ubisoft has integrated into Assassin’s Creed titles.

When Far Cry 3 was first shown, the development team at Ubisoft Montreal has focused on the sheer insanity of the various inhabitants living on the island that the player will explore.

Since then they have shown gameplay sequences that should be instantly familiar to those who have played the second game.

Far Cry 3 will be launched on the PC, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft during September of this year, as long as a delay does not hit it.
