Fans feel cheated by interview on benefits of going vegan

Yesterday, Beyonce shocked fans by dropping an ABC teaser in which she promised she would be making an “amazing announcement” on Good Morning America. Some hoped for a new album announcement, some for a new tour, while others assumed she would be letting the world know she was pregnant with her second child.

As it turns out - and as you can see in the video below - all Beyonce had to say was that she was vegan, which, to be honest, was no longer a secret since she’d talked about it before.

So no wonder her diehard fans are disappointed and venting about it on social media.

Beyonce disappoints, the BeyHive will not let it slide

Of all the things Beyonce she could have announced, she chose the least interesting to drum up attention to, her fans are saying on social media.

Many of them woke up early in the morning to see her “amazing” announcement on GMA and not few actually took in sick days from work and school just so they would catch it live. They did so under the assumption that she would announce something big indeed, like an album or a tour.

Many of these fans would have even settled for something new related to Tidal, Jay Z’s music streaming service that got off to a very rocky start because of the prohibitive monthly fee and sub-par audio quality.

Instead, they got an “announcement” that wasn’t even new, because most fans knew that Beyonce owed her newly toned, slimmer figure to taking up Marco Borges’ 22-day vegan challenge, by which she swears to this day.

As you can see in the Twitter samples below, some even took offense that Beyonce would have them waste precious time tuning in to GMA to see her “amazing announcement” just to let them know they were fat and needed her diet to get in better shape.

They were upset that she went to the trouble of drumming up so much attention for what was essentially a weight loss shill.

The other side of the coin

Then there are those who came to her defense, though they were comparatively fewer: Beyonce is doing something to improve her life and she wants her fans to do the same.

Going vegan could have a significant impact on their health, just like it had on hers. Her initiative, though financially motivated, was admirable, so it couldn’t possibly be dubbed a “disappointment.”

Even if that weren’t the case, Beyonce’s defenders are saying, who are the fans to decide what she should and should not trump up in the media? It’s true, Beyonce would be no one without her BeyHive, but that doesn’t mean that they get to dictate how and what she should advertise, let alone to attack her when they don’t agree with the way she does her marketing.
