First teaser trailer for the Michael Bay-produced film left fans reeling in anger

Last week, a first teaser trailer for “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” the new live-action film based on the popular comics, produced by Michael Bay and directed by Jonathan Liebesman, debuted online. Contrary to studio expectations, it didn’t really thrill fans.

Then again, the project has been surrounded in controversy since Bay announced it, but it did seem to reach a new peak when fans noticed that Bay and Liebesman had tried to make the Turtles more human-looking by giving them noses and full lips.

For those of you familiar with the original characters, you can appreciate the weirdness in the trailer below. Let’s be honest here: the attempt makes sense, because you don’t want your 4 leading men to come across as completely unrelatable, but the bottom line is that they’re not human. They’re mutant turtles and should look just like that.

So one fan took to Reddit to offer his version of the Turtles, a comparatively better one than what the producers on the film came up with: and all he had to do was remove the nose and the lips, which made them look like one of those infamous cases of celebrity plastic surgery gone bad.

You can see his suggestions in the two pictures in the gallery: the Turtles do look less creepy and more like the characters many of us grew up with. However, don’t hold your breath that the studio will change anything between now and the release, scheduled for August in the US.
