Until not long ago, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag made one of the most mediated couples in showbiz. Also known as Speidi, the two constantly attracted the paparazzi’s attention by various means, which also included calling them up themselves to let them know of their whereabouts. Now that they’re apart, Spencer is finally talking about the reasons that led to the separation – and fame and attention had a lot to do with it, People writes.

As he’s reportedly preparing to start his own paparazzi agency, hopefully with the help of his Twitter followers, Pratt finally talks about the split from his better half, Heidi, and what led to it. Far from bad-mouthing her, the reality star says they had simply come to understand they wanted different things in life: she wanted to continue as she’d been, while he was dreaming of being more famous and getting even more exposure in the media. He chose fame over her, in other words.

“We love each other but I’m a fame[expletive] and I’ll never grow out of it. [Heidi] knows that and doesn’t want that. I want every kind of press. She believes in bad press. There’s no way my love for fame and her love for puppies will ever work out successfully. She just wants to hike and hang out and be calmer. She doesn’t want to be Speidi anymore. She wants to be Heidi Montag,” Pratt tells the magazine in what must be the first interview he gives since the much-mediated split.

His quest for fame also sees him embracing another side of himself as an artist, trying out new things. “She thought I’d burn out of this, but no, I’m still the same Spencer who went on The Hills to be famous. I still need to do stunts and take cues from Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. […] I’m switching it up. I’ve already gone for the blonde, spiky-haired look. Now I’m going for the Hollywood producer look. I’m an artist now. I have an easel and everything. I’m going for an art show and a gallery,” he says.

In the same brief interview, Pratt also admits that his marriage to Heidi has always been troubled, at least as regards their attitude towards fame and the lengths they should go to achieve it. This would seem to confirm ongoing reports that it wasn’t Heidi who decided she needed the drastic surgical makeover she underwent earlier this year, but Spencer who pushed her into getting it because of the kind of publicity it would – and did – generate.
