Bethesda Softworks has announced that Fallout: New Vegas, the post apocalyptic mix between role playing and adventure developed by Obsidian, has shipped more than 5 million units all over the world, across all platforms, with the overall retail sales totaling more than 300 million dollars.

The publisher has also emphasized the fact that Fallout: New Vegas had a “heavy volume” of the reported sales go through digital distribution platforms like Steam and that the strategy guide for the title managed to find a position in the Amazon best sellers category.

Vlatko Andonov, who is the president of Bethesda Softworks, has stated, “We are delighted by the reception Fallout: New Vegas has received from fans around the world. Despite the large launch quantities for this title, we have already received substantial re-orders from our retail partners, underscoring the tremendous popularity of this highly entertaining game. We believe Fallout: New Vegas will be the “must buy” title for gamers throughout the holiday season.”

Fallout: New Vegas takes the player West, away from the Capital Wasteland area and into the Mojave, where humanity is starting to rebuild in an area little affected by nuclear war and where the Hoover Dam has become a strategic resource because of it's electricity output capabilities and clean water.

New Vegas is more story driven than Fallout 3 ever was and offers numerous links to previous titles in the series, including a number of concepts that are similar to those proposed for Van Buren, the Fallout project which was under development at Black Isle.

At launch some players have reported game breaking bugs happening in New Vegas and at the moment developer Obsidian is working hard to put together a comprehensive patch that will make the game smoother to play and easier to enjoy.
