No love for PC gamers

Following the controversy regarding Fallout 3 not getting a rating in Australia, and the news that the game will have more than 40,000 lines of written dialog, Bethesda went into the Microsoft E3 presentation ready to announce the next big thing related to its post-apocalyptic title.

Todd Howard, a Bethesda E3 spokesperson, went up on stage to endorse the Xbox Live Marketplace service from Microsoft, and to announce that his company was committed to offering downloadable content exclusively for the Microsoft-made gaming consoles.

Howard said: "We love Xbox Live Marketplace, we're happy to announce that we're going to be doing substantial DLC for Fallout 3 and it will be exclusive to Xbox 360 and Windows PC." He did, however, fail to say what the DLC would consist of and how it would aim to expand the experience of the game. New areas and new quests are a possibility, but any Xbox 360 exclusivity will most likely draw an angry response from PC gamers.

The Bethesda man also showed off a short nice demonstration of the game, with highlights being the VATS combat system, which looked good in action, and the Fatman, a weapon that can launch a nuclear warhead, which is already a favorite.

Talk of exclusive Xbox 360 DLC for Fallout 3 is very similar to the announcements made by Microsoft before the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, when it was said that entire new cities would be coming to the Microsoft console via download. Rockstar initially confirmed it had an exclusivity agreement with Microsoft, but no news regarding said deal surfaced after the release of the game.

I plan to buy Fallout 3 and I'll probably be getting the PC version of the game, because the very real promise of mods for the game is more interesting to me than the very elusive one of exclusive content for the Xbox 360.
