Just say Ole!

The Spanish version of Google has been quite fancy in the past two days. Doodle after doodle after? no, just two of them, but in a very rapid succession. The first had to do with a local holiday from Valencia, Spain, where the 19th of March celebrates Saint Joseph's Day in a different way than the rest of the countries.

A falla is basically a combination of ninots (the Valencian word for puppet or doll), all paraded and then mounted on their elaborate firecracker-filled cardboard and papier-m?ch? artistic monument in a street of the given neighborhood that is burnt on the day, but producing this ensemble is a year long activity, only for those chosen for the part.

Each neighborhood of Valencia appoints a Casal faller, that besides having to come up with the fallas is also obliged to work all year long holding fundraising parties and dinners, that usually include the famous specialty paella. As you can see on the left, the food is nowhere to be seen on the Google doodle, but then again, neither are the puppets. Instead there's a very happy woman dressed in the traditional Spanish manner and some fireworks in the back. Oh yeah, and confetti, lots of it. Strange how that gets overused in the latest doodles.

The second drawing actually is available for everybody allover the world, and it has two tulip bouquets replacing the two 'o's and a couple of ladybugs climbing the second 'g'. Simple, yet classy, the doodle represents the first day of spring, according to the thumbnail and the search attached. It celebrates the vernal equinox, which happened to fall on the 20th this year, but usually varies between the 19th and the 21st of March. World, get ready for spring, for it's coming! And with all the pollution thinning the ozone layer, it's going to be warmer than ever.
