Aviary launched the new Falcon web image editor to integrate with its Talon Firefox plugin.

While web-based photo editors aren't anything new there also hasn't been one to really take off. Now Aviary, a New York-based startup, has joined the club with a simple photo editing web app, Falcon, which offers all of the basic tools and features that most other web image editors have though what makes it interesting is its integration with the Talon Firefox add-on.

Talon is a plugin, available here, that allows users to capture images of the pages they are visiting. After they have selected what they want to capture – screenshots of the viewed page or just a portion of it, as well as of an entire webpage and even the content below the fold – users have the option to save the image to their desktop, copy it to the clipboard but also host it on Aviary.com or upload it to the Falcon editor.

The web-based editor has all the basic functionality you would expect with editing solutions as well as brushes and text tools. Resizing, rotating and cropping tools are available, as is the possibility to add text and arrows. And if the simple tools aren't enough Falcon has the option to edit your image with 4 more powerful utilities provided by Aviary, like a color editor, advanced image editor, effects editor and vector editor. After you are done editing, the image can be saved in the JPG or PNG formats or it can be hosted at Aviary.com. There is also a premium service, available for $24.99, which gives users additional options like privacy and watermark control.

Falcon is really light, coming in at 90k, which accounts for its speed. While there are other tools out there, the integration with the screen capture plugin could make it a simple and fast solution for bloggers who want a screenshot of a page.
