Here's how the malicious emails look, so you'll know what to avoid

There’s almost one month until the US celebrates its Independence Day, but cybercriminals have already started leveraging the big event in their schemes.

Dynamoo’s Blog has issued an alert regarding a spam campaign that’s designed to distribute malware with the aid of phony notifications entitled “Transmission Confirmation [random code],” apparently sent by the National Payment (NatPay) Automated Reports System.

“Thursday, July 04, 2013, Independence Day is a Federal Banking Holiday. All banks are closed for this holiday, therefore NatPay will not be able to process any files on that date. If you plan on transmitting for a paydate that falls between Thursday, July 04, 2013 and Thursday, July 11, 2013 you will need to the file a day earlier,” the fake emails read.

Users who click on the links contained in the emails are taken, via a number of redirects, to a website that serves malware.

If you receive such emails, make sure you don’t click on any of the links they contain. If you’re a victim of this scam, scan your computer with an antivirus to make sure it’s not infected with malware.
