The ending will be different, obviously...

I'm sure everyone knows the story of Jeanne d'Arc (a woman who receives visions from God, fights war, gets convicted of heresy and is burned at the stake), but if you don't I suggest you go read the book, or watch the movie (I personally recommend the one with Milla Jovovich). For those who know the story though, Factor 5 has a video game in the scope for the PSP and of course, with an alternate ending.

As the game is based on the exact same story of Jeanne d'Arc, it would be a shame for gamers to know from the first seconds of play that Jeanne will burn alive at the end. Plus, it wouldn't be nice to see. Thus, Factor 5 explains in an interview with Siliconera that the video game will have an alternate ending. The interviewers asked the developer to provide a brief insight on the game's story, letting people in on exactly how similar the game will be to the real story of Jeanne d'Arc.

Factor 5: "Jeanne d'Arc is inspired by the story of Joan of Arc, and as such, it is a mix of both history and fantasy. This story takes place in France during the Hundred Years' War, where Jeanne receives an oracle to drive the English out of her homeland. She rallies the French troops to fight the English and free the occupied cities, and tries to have The Dauphin, Prince Charles VII, crowned as the rightful ruler of France. On top of this history, we've added fantasy elements such as "The War of the Reapers", a great battle fought between man and demons. Since the ending of Jeanne's life is very well known, we wanted to surprise the players by making some changes to the ending as well."

The developer's comments didn't exactly answer the question, but they're not supposed to divulge anything anyway. After all, they're trying as hard as they can to change Jeanne's end, only because people are familiar with it. Do you reckon they'd say how they changed it? Not likely.

Level 5 also explains how Jeanne d'Arc is going to be a different RPG games, due to its increased emphasis on bunching your characters together. We truly hope it's everything they say, but we'd appreciate it to know exactly when it's released for Sony's handheld. Let's hope it's some time soon.
