It will also act like a dialer and call ID applications

Popular social network company Facebook is working on a new application that will bring a few new features to those using its mobile application.

The new application is called “Phone,” and while its name might suggest that it will allow users to make and receive calls, it's in fact an app with Caller ID function.

Additionally, the Android application will act like a Dialer and a call blocking app. This means that users will receive info about who's calling. Phone will also automatically block calls from commonly blocked numbers.

Phone will only be available to those who have a Facebook account, so Android users who don't have one won't be able to take advantage of this application.

Facebook has yet to confirm the existence of the application, but the folks over at AndroidPolice have recently received a screenshot showing the application's description.

From what we can tell, Phone app can be installed and updated directly from Facebook for Android. It's unclear whether or not Facebook will list the application in Google Play Store as well, but since it requires a Facebook account, it makes sense to add it as an extension via Facebook app.

Facebook has yet to make the app available for download

Phone is not yet available for download, as tapping the Install button shown in the screenshot will redirect users to a non-existent page with the known “no page found” error.

This means that Facebook still has some work to do before flipping the switch on the Phone application. We don't expect the company to announce any details on the Android application before Phone actually goes live in Facebook.

This seems to be another attempt from Facebook to offer more services to mobile phone users, that will keep them logged into their application.

We'll be keeping an eye out for any additional details on Phone for Android, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
