Facebook has proved it utility once again, helping authorities solve an unbelievable case of animal cruelty that ended up in court. A judge has decided a woman from Denver is guilty of torturing an killing a rat. Tashaya Abbott will have to take $125 our of her pockets and commit to 50 hours of community service.

Tashaya Abbott and Alison Milke purchased the rat from a pet store and wanted to use it to feed their snake. After the snake refused to eat the creature for four days, the couple decided it is time to end the life of their no-longer-wanted guest, PETA reports.

As a result, the woman spared no efforts to electroshock the animal. After she got bored, she shot it with blow darts a few times and in the end crushed the tiny creature until it finally died.

Instead of trying to hide the incriminating evidence, she started bragging about her ingenious methods of torture, posting a picture of her victim on Facebook, where everybody can now see the result.

A PETA activist noticed the crime and alerted the police. The judge apparently thought her mishap cannot be disregarded so he decided she should pay a court fine for her irresponsible actions.

The sentence represent a significant achievement since it highlights that even the lives of tiny creatures is valued and every animal abuser faces considerable risks. Small domestic animals are often defenseless victims of animal cruelty.

An already notorious cat serial killer is currently horrifying the public opinion. He managed to feed his python with a kitten and has recently drowned another cat. PETA is eager to see him behind bars, so it has announced it is willing to offer £2,000 (€2,332/$3,120) to anyone able to identify the animal abuser.
