Roughly a week ago, Microsoft announced the availability of yet another great application for the owners of Windows Phone devices out there, in the form of Facebook Messenger, already one of the most sought for apps in the Store.

Facebook Messenger has been available for Android and iOS users for quite some time now, providing them with the possibility to stay in touch with their friends on the social network without launching the official Facebook client.

Windows Phone had been left out of the picture, but all changed last week, when the software landed in the Windows Phone Store too.

Roughly one week later, Facebook Messenger has taken the first place in the list of top free applications available for the owners of devices running under Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

The software has already received over 2,000 ratings from users and a score of 4.5 out of 5, which clearly shows how popular it is, winbeta.org notes.

Facebook Messenger can be seen both in the "Top Free" and "New+Rising" sections in the Windows Phone Store, where it has taken the first position from the official Facebook mobile client. It also dethroned apps such as Instagram BETA, Pandora, YouTube HD, and Adobe Reader.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the application was launched with features and capabilities similar to those of other messaging applications out there, allowing users to easily send texts and the like, for free.

With it, all messages are available for fast access without launching the Facebook application, and there is also support for group conversations included in the app, for a better overall mobile experience.

What’s more, Facebook Messenger also allows users to bring conversations to life with stickers, not to mention that it is providing them with the possibility to send photos privately to their friends.

A great deal of other features is also available for users in this application, including the possibility to share location with friends, or notifications on when people have seen sent messages.

Moreover, the mobile client will allow users to see who’s active on both Facebook and in the Messenger, and to stay logged in at all times, so that they never miss new messages or lose conversation history or contacts.

Facebook Messenger is an official Facebook application, and it seems pretty fully-featured in the manner in which it is available at the moment. You can download Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone from Softpedia today.
