Facebook is clearly the most popular social network in the world with its 1.3 billion monthly users, but in some countries there are obviously more users than in others.

While dry numbers are important, it’s more interesting when you look at the adoption rates. For instance, according to eMarketer, 82 percent of Internet users in Finland visit the site at least daily.

That’s an extremely high number for any service and proves just how important Facebook has become for people everywhere.

Facebook’s photo app Instagram comes in second in the chart, drawing visits from 15 percent of Internet users. Google+ is surprisingly on the list as well, with 9 percent of users visiting the site every day, putting it in third place.

Twitter appeals to 5 percent of people, Pinterest to 3 percent, LinkedIn to 2 percent of Internet users and Tumblr to only 1 percent.

Aside from these well-known social media sites, Finnish Internet users were really interested in blogs, with 23 percent of them visiting such sites, while 14 percent visited to various forums.

There are also two local social networks that are on the list. Suomi24 and photo-sharing platform IRC-Galleria are both quite popular. Data from TNS Metrix shows that Suomi24 had the fifth-highest number of unique visitors out of all websites for the week between June 9 and June 15.

Other sources back up the discoveries. DNA Oy, for instance, says that Facebook was the most used social media site in Finland. For instance, in January 25, over two thirds of Internet users polled in the country said they used Facebook, while Google+ came in second with 20 percent of users visiting it.

eMarketer estimates that 54.6 percent of the population of Finland will use a social network at least monthly this year.

Facebook just keeps on growing

During the first quarter of 2014, Facebook had 1.28 billion monthly active users, but it has already climbed to 1.31 billion in the second quarter. The company has also managed to attract 1 billion monthly users on mobile, which is yet another important milestone for Facebook.

The company has been trying to help increase the number of people connected to the Internet, which has become quite important since there are about 2.9 billion Internet users in the world. Since Facebook is certainly not for everyone, the company wants to make sure it has as wide a pool as possible.
