Video was pulled by mistake, not because Facebook has something against religious films

Over the weekend, “Growing Pains” actor Kirk Cameron made headlines after he went public with the fact that both YouTube and Facebook had banned the trailer for his latest project, a film called “Unstoppable.”

At the time I covered it, Cameron and his fans had already convinced YouTube to get the trailer back online, but Facebook was still not showing or linking to it.

In a statement to The Wrap, Facebook explains how this came to happen: it was pretty much a mistake.

“To protect the hundreds of millions of people who connect and share on Facebook every day, we have automated systems that work in the background to maintain a trusted environment and protect our users from bad actors who often use links to spread spam and malware,” the statement says.

“They're not perfect, though, and in rare instances they make mistakes. This link was blocked for a very short period of time after being misidentified as a potential spam or malware site. We learn from rare cases such as these to make our systems even better,” it adds.

“Unstoppable” won’t have a regular theatrical run, but will be a one-night, live event that will take place on September 24, at 8 p.m. EST, in theaters across the US.
