Facebook has introduced Facebook Connect for iPhone, enabling developers to add a “social” touch to their apps with “just a few lines of Objective-C code.” The aim is to produce iPhone apps that allow users to login to Facebook from within the program, find friends and communicate.

“Facebook Connect is now available for iPhone, allowing you to integrate the power of Facebook Platform into your iPhone app,” reads the announcement. According to the Facebook's section dedicated to developers, such apps would enable your users to seamlessly connect their Facebook account and information with the iPhone app, connect and share experiences with friends who also use the respective application and share user information and actions on the app with friends on Facebook.

“People count on Facebook to stay connected to their friends and family,” the guys behind the free-access social networking web site explain. “With Facebook Connect, they can take their friends with them wherever they take their iPhone. Developers can add rich social experiences to their apps, from playing games with friends, to seeing their movie recommendations, chatting during live sports games, and many more.”

Main strong points of Facebook-powered apps would include: - Trusted Authentication; - Real Identity; - Friends List; - Dynamic Privacy; - Social Distribution.

According to the engineers at Facebook, this is how it works:

“Connect for iPhone is a Cocoa library that you add to your iPhone app client. It provides authentication, extended permissions and Feed form functionality. iPhone styled 'Connect with Facebook' and 'Logout ' buttons are provided to include in your app. Facebook Platform automatic ally handles user authentication and distribution of Feed stories.”

Interested parties are encouraged to download the Software Development Kit (SDK) now. Check out more on Facebook Connect for iPhone here.
