The official Facebook account of Mohammad Javad Zarif (facebook.com/jzarif), Iran’s current minister of foreign affairs, has been hacked.

Zarif has issued a statement explaining that someone has hacked into his Facebook account and changed the password.

“My Facebook page was pirated by someone who changed the password, but the problem has since been sorted,” he wrote shortly after the incident.

He has also told his over 200,000 followers that if this happens again, he might stop using Facebook.

The messages posted by the hacker have been removed, but HackRead reports that the attacker protested against police brutality during the 2009 presidential election in Iran.

It’s worth noting that websites such as Google, Facebook and Twitter are blocked in Iran. However, many government officials have social media accounts.

On the other hand, many regular users are also accessing the websites by bypassing the unsophisticated filters.
